Dr. Gilmore is a Research Investigator in the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Minneapolis VAHCS. His research investigates the use of non-invasive neuromodulation techniques, including Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), as interventions for cognitive dysfunction in conditions such as traumatic brain injury, substance use disorders, Mild Cognitive Impairment, and Veterans at risk of suicidal behavior. He also investigates the longitudinal changes in brain and retinal measures (using techniques such as Electroencephalography (EEG), functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) in Veterans with neurodegenerative disorders, and their roles as potential biomarkers of progressive neural degeneration.
