Earlier this month, MnDRIVE Brain Conditions Program Manager, Karrie Molitor, had the opportunity to tour the MnDRIVE Brain Conditions Non-invasive Neuromodulation Laboratory at the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB). It was an experience that truly highlighted the innovation and impact of this work especially within a pediatric setting.
Guided by Lab Manager, Alana Lieske and Research Professional, Mia Kellman, she was able to explore the lab’s two dedicated spaces at MIDB. Each environment is thoughtfully designed to support young patients and research participants, creating a setting that is both welcoming and highly functional for cutting-edge neuromodulation work.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the tour was seeing the advanced equipment used in non-invasive neuromodulation treatments such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). Learning how this technology is being applied to better understand and treat brain conditions in children and adolescents was both inspiring and encouraging. The ability to deliver targeted stimulation to specific areas of the brain—without surgery—represents a powerful step forward in how we approach neurological and mental health care.
Alana and Mia shared insights into their day-to-day work, from coordinating research protocols to ensuring a positive and supportive experience for participants and families. Their dedication and expertise were evident throughout the visit, and it’s clear that their efforts play a vital role in advancing MnDRIVE’s mission.
Thank you to Alana and Mia for the warm welcome and for taking the time to share your work. It was a privilege to see firsthand the meaningful impact of the Non-invasive Neuromodulation Lab at MIDB.
