Maliah is a rising senior at the University of Minnesota and is majoring in Human Physiology and minoring in Chemistry, African American Studies, and Spanish. She plans to pursue a career in medicine, specifically in Obstetrics and Gynecology. This summer is is excited to learn more about neuroimaging processes and what it can reveal about different mental health disorders.
The Converging Approaches to Neurodevelopment (CAN Lab) has several ongoing studies focused on neurodevelopmental disorders, with an emphasis on youth with Tourette Syndrome/tic disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder. They currently have several clinical trials testing novel interventions (e.g., combining therapy and neuromodulation) as well as projects aimed at using video-based methods to objectively quantify symptoms. Maliah will learn about neuroimaging, clinical assessment, video-based behavioral coding, neuromodulation (transcranial magnetic stimulation), EEG, machine learning, cognitive-behavioral interventions, and clinical trials.
