Mentor: Robert McGovern III, Department of Neurosurgery
Elias is from Ecuador and has lived in Minnesota for the past 8 years. She attends Augsburg University where he is majoring in Biochemistry. His major interests is in biological sciences and his love for anatomy. His future goal is to go to medical school to become a doctor. This summer he is excited to start doing research and keep expanding his knowledge by learning new skills.
He will be working on a variety of projects and engage in three main research directions in the McGovern lab. All projects have direct connections to care for patients with neurological disorders. First, he will work on a project that is examining how to best optimize deep brain stimulation settings in patients with epilepsy. Second, he will work on a project which aims at better understanding how to improve surgical care for Black patients with epilepsy in the Twin Cities metro area. Finally, he will work on a project that is looking at quantitative analysis of gait and balance in patients with Parkinson's disease.
