Mia Kellman joined the NNL in the fall of 2022 and began working on a wide variety of clinical trials utilizing different types of non-invasive neuromodulation. She has had the opportunity to work with Veterans, teens, young adults, and everyone in between! Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) can sound quite intimidating, but once participants get to try it out and hear about the science behind it, it's easy to see why it's so popular! Along with Alana Lieske, Mia has worked to make the pediatric laboratory space at MIDB as kid-friendly as possible, while still facilitating cutting-edge NIBS research. They hope to make NIBS more accessible to participants seeking help for a variety of neurological and psychiatric disorders, such as Tourette's syndrome, OCD, depression, and many others. MnDRIVE Brain Conditions allows them to provide NIBS services and consultation to study teams for free, which creates more opportunities for novel research protocols to come to fruition, and increases the amount of participants that they are able to serve. Mia's time in the NNL has been instrumental in shaping her career goals, and she is excited to start medical school at the University of Minnesota in the fall of 2026! Mia could not have achieved this without the support of her incredible mentors within the NNL and the investigators that they collaborate with. Mia is so grateful that she gets to stay at UMN for the next four years!
