Each year, Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month is observed from May 15 to June 15, providing a critical opportunity to educate the public about Tourette Syndrome (TS) and other tic disorders. This month serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, understanding, and inclusivity for individuals living with these complex conditions.
Tourette Syndrome is often misunderstood. It's more than just tics—it's a neurological condition that can impact social, emotional, and academic well-being. Awareness Month is a time to shed light on the daily realities faced by individuals with TS and to celebrate their strength, resilience, and contributions to our communities.
A Message from the Minnesota Tic and Compulsivity (MnTiC) Lab
At the MnTiC Lab, we are committed to improving the lives of people with tic disorders through research, innovation, and collaboration. Our work focuses on exploring evidence-based treatments like:
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) – a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that may help reduce tics.
Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) – a highly effective behavioral therapy designed specifically for managing tics.
Beyond treatment studies, we conduct qualitative research to listen directly to individuals and families affected by tics. Their stories and experiences shape our research and inform our understanding of what truly matters to patients.
We deeply value the voices of lived experience experts. Through our Patient Advisory Board (PAB) and collaborations with community organizations, we ensure that our research stays grounded in the needs and insights of those we serve.
To everyone who has contributed to our work—thank you. Your partnership makes this progress possible.
