On July 19, 2017,

Representative Tony Albright (State House District 55B), Representative Matt Dean (State House District 38B), and a team of legislative staff, visited the University of Minnesota where they learned about the progress and accomplishments of the MnDRIVE Brain Conditions initiative, the Medical Discovery Team on Addiction, and the Udall Center of Excellence for Parkinson’s Disease Research.  The MnDRIVE Brain Conditions team and Medical Discovery Team on Addiction initiatives receive funding from the Legislature.  The Udall Center is one of nine federally funded centers across the country devoted to researching the causes and treatments for Parkinson’s disease.

The Representatives and staff met with Drs. Jerrold Vitek, and Colum MacKinnon from the Udall Center of Excellence for Parkinson's Disease Research and the Department of Neurology, Drs. Tim Ebner and Mark Thomas from the Department of Neuroscience, and Dr. Jazmin Camchong from the Department of Psychiatry.

After actively participating in the presentations, Representative Albright said, “I had a fantastic visit to the University of Minnesota.  I learned more about exciting research at the University – including neuroscience research aimed at understanding and treating addiction and Parkinson’s disease.  I am so pleased the legislature was able to fund the Medical Discovery Team on Addiction and MnDRIVE so this work can accelerate and grow”.
