LS-NSSA/MnDRIVE 2022 Summer Internship Opportunity

Thanks to a collaboration between the Louis Stokes North Star STEM Alliance (LS-NSSA) and Minnesota's Discovery, Research, and InnoVation Economy (MnDRIVE), LS-NSSA scholars can participate in paid 8-week summer research internships with MnDRIVE faculty at the University of Minnesota.

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is an initiative funded by the National Science Foundation which is intended to double the number of African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Alaska Native and Pacific Islander students receiving baccalaureate degrees in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in a five-year period.

The Louis Stokes North Star STEM Alliance is the Minnesota branch of this nation-wide program. Aside from receiving funding from NSF, we also receive funding from 3M to support Southeast Asians along with the rest of our cohort, providing stipends, travel opportunities, research funding, and more to students who join our cohort.

Please read the following thoroughly before beginning to complete the online application.

Eligibility:
- Level 1 Louis Stokes North Star STEM Alliance scholar (check with your site coordinator regarding what Level scholar you are if you do not know)
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- minimum of 2.75 GPA by the end of the spring 2022 term
- not graduating in spring 2022 or august 2022

3) Unofficial transcript (uploaded with this application)
4) Letter of Reference (emailed to [email protected] by 5 PM (CST) March 4, 2022)

Applicants who submit a complete application by 5:00 PM (CST) on March 4, 2022 will be given preference to participate in this research program and with their top project choices. A letter of reference should be emailed by the writer of the letter to Crystal Lee-Thao ([email protected]). All letters of references must be submitted to LS-NSSA by March 4, 2022 @ 5 PM (CST) .

Guidelines for your personal statement:

No longer than 500 words and addresses the following:
1) Expresses why you wish to participate in this research program, and what you hope to gain through the experience – including any information that you feel supports your request to participate (i.e. research experiences, coursework, employment, internships), and 2) Describes your career goals and how you plan to reach them through graduate education or future employment.
